He just won control of his legacy. Loving her could cost him everything.

Billionaire Hayes Rivers came into my life like a hurricane…

Heir to an oil empire, he was sexy and seductive, controlling and scorching hot. I craved every touch, every filthy promise that fell from his beautiful mouth, knowing he could break me. My past had left me battered and bruised, with scars he was determined to heal.

Loving him was like drowning—he consumed me, body and soul.

But Hayes has secrets of his own. And nothing could prepare me for the shocking pieces of our pasts that threaten to rip us apart.

When the truth is revealed will our love be enough to shelter the storm?

The Legacy is the first book in Dylan Allen’s Rivers Wilde series. This is Hayes Rivers and Confidence’s love story.

The Legacy is the second book I read by author Dylan Allen. A few months ago I read The Sun and Her Star; I fell head over heels for this novel and Dylan Allen’s writing style which quickly prompted me to add all her books to my tbr. I was kind of bummed by the fact that I didn’t love The Legacy as much as I was hoping I would. In my opinion, this one didn’t quite meet the standards I was looking for. There were things I really enjoyed about this novel and there were issues that had me scratching my head and thinking, wtf!

First of all, let me tell you a little about the characters. Hayes is the Hero of the story, he grew up wanting for nothing with the world at his feet. He knows what he was taught. On the outside this man is nothing more than a silver spoon example of living life in luxury. But beneath the surface he’s a man who wants to change the world, starting with his family’s business. I loved Hayes and his strong alpha vibes.

Confidence is the Heroine of the story. Her family didn’t have money, but what they lacked in material possessions they made up for with love. It was her and her mom, and her small town through everything. But she did grow up with her own struggles, she had a dad with a mean streak and a brother who took after their dad. Which made her even more determined to make something of herself. So she set out to become a lawyer, and she wasn’t going to stop until she was the best damn lawyer she could possibly be…. And then she made the horrible mistake of falling in love with the wrong man… She had a happily ever after in her eyes, while he had nothing but sowing his wild oats in his. Now, Confidence is looking for another job within a law firm, but every door she knocks on is getting slammed in her face. I loved Confidence’s perseverance and her thrive to be the best lawyer for the people. She was an overall good person, she was the type of lawyer who wanted to help people, she wasn’t in it for the money. I loved this fact about her. I loved her kind heart but I also loved her fight and her stubbornness.

So you’d think I would be over the moon in love with Hayes and Confidence as a couple….right?! That wasn’t the case with these two. I felt their chemistry was all over the place. One moment there would be a fire so bright between them even a fire extinguisher wouldn’t put it out… but then other times I had a hard time feeling that connection and the chemistry. They seemed to be all over the place with their back and forth emotional connection. I needed more of a buildup and less of a roller coaster. I also wanted more of a connection between the main characters and their friendships/family bonds with the background characters. And that is why I gave this one a 3 star rating. I really liked the story-line, I just needed more chemistry.

Now I’m diving into Remy Wilde’s story! I find this man to be very mysterious and intriguing. I’m curious to see how his relationship with Hayes changes throughout the book. I can’t wait.
