Blurb:

Iโ€™m banished to Vermont for a scandal that wasnโ€™t my fault, and broke because my famous father cut me off. And did I mention my roommate stole my boyfriend? Yeah, Iโ€™m loving my Moo U experience.ย

Now I need a job, because this gel manicure wonโ€™t upkeep itself. The only available option is the last one Iโ€™d ever want–a job as the hockey teamโ€™s equipment manager. My plan is to do the bare minimum, get paid, and find my way back into my fatherโ€™s good graces.ย

I will not get involved with a hockey player, no matter how hot. Theyโ€™re cocky. And obnoxious. I know their type, and Iโ€™m not willing to risk getting hurt again. Until Lex Vonne glides into my life looking like sin on a stick.ย

He thinks Iโ€™m a spoiled brat.ย
I think heโ€™s using me to get ahead.ย
But the fire I feel when weโ€™re together is like a slapshot to my heartโ€ฆ

Excerpt:

I flip on a lamp and then lean against the edge of the desk. โ€œDo you want something to drink? Iโ€™ve got beer and Gatorade.โ€

โ€œI want you to take off your shirt and kiss me,โ€ she says.

Finally having her admit out loud that she wants me is a boost, but Iโ€™ve got a sense of Kaitlyn. If we fool around tonight without talking, weโ€™ll be in the same place. Sheโ€™ll walk out of here pretending it was nothing.

I grab two beers and offer her one. โ€œIf you could have a superpower, what would you choose?โ€

โ€œA superpower?โ€ A smile splits her lips.

โ€œIt was the first question that came to mind.โ€ Probably because Iโ€™m using my super restraint to keep my dick from jumping up and slapping me for stopping to make idle conversation. โ€œIf you want me to take this off, you have to answer.โ€

โ€œAn answer for an article of clothing?โ€

I nod and she steps forward and takes the beer from me.

โ€œIโ€™d want to fly.โ€

โ€œFly?โ€ I canโ€™t help but chuckle at a response I wasnโ€™t expecting. โ€œNo laser beam eyes to destroy your enemies?โ€

โ€œLess effort and not as messy to just fly far away.โ€

I open the beer and take a drink before setting it on the desk and pull off my sweatshirt, then run a hand through my hair as I toss the balled-up fabric at her.

She easily catches it. โ€œIf I ask you a question, do I have to take something off?โ€

โ€œUp to you.โ€

โ€œHmm.โ€

โ€œIโ€™ll give you a freebie.โ€ Moving to the bed, I sit and motion with my head for her to do the same.ย

โ€œIโ€™d choose telepathy. Imagine how straightforward everything would be if we all knew exactly what other people were thinking.โ€

Book Review (10)

Judging from this second book in the Moo U Series, I think it is safe to say, this is going to be one of those book series I wonโ€™t be forgetting anytime soon!!! Iโ€™m officially head over skates in love with this series!!!

In My Own Words:

Slapshot by Rebecca Jenshak is the second book in the Moo U Series! Now itโ€™s time for swoony Lex to find his happily ever after!

Lex hasnโ€™t been playing hockey as long as some of his teammates have, and that leads to him having a built up pressure on his shoulders. He is determined to be the best, and with being the best, you have to merge with your teammates and become one. Something he has yet to do. Heโ€™s an overthinker and with all that leads to his very own frustrationsโ€ฆ he needs something to help him unwind, something to keep him grounded.

On the outside Kaitlyn looks to have a picture perfect life. But beneath the surface this womanโ€™s life is far from that. All she wants is someone to accept her for the person she is. She wants someone to love her. But by being a hot shot hockey players daughter she learned long ago, there is no one in the world that fits that criteria. That is until sheโ€™s forced to get a job as the equipment manager for the male hockey team.

Seems like no one can resist Lexโ€™s swoony boy next door charmโ€ฆโ€ฆ Lexโ€™s charm hasnโ€™t met Kaitlyn yet! Heโ€™s about to see not everyone can be won over so easily.ย

My Thoughts:

Itโ€™s official! I am LOVING the Moo U Series!! Iโ€™m a small town romance type of girl. I love all the swoony small time vibes this series is throwing out! But unlike the first novel, which focused on the farm life most, Slapshot focuses more on the hockey aspect and less on the farm lifestyle. Itโ€™s nice to have a little mashup of the two.ย

Lex is just as swoony and sweet as I imagined him being. I loved the fact that he was completely devoted to hockey, until Kaitlyn walked into his life. It was a great concept watching him go from ignoring women to giving one specific woman his complete undivided attention. Basically what Iโ€™m saying is, I loved watching Lex slowly fall in love just as much as I loved watching the perfectly built up steel walls guarding Kaitlynโ€™s heart slowly fall down. Everybody needs that one special person in their life to make them see the greater picture and their it for one another.ย

One of the greatest moments for me was watching Lex repair the damage between Kaitlyn and her father. This situation settled down deep in my heart and soul. It made me love this man even more than what I initially felt.ย

Now for the reasoning behind why I dropped a star on my rating.ย

You see Lex is this standup guy who never gave Kaitlyn any reason to doubt his intentions and his feelings for herโ€ฆ. But still she continues to doubt him. It was understandable at the beginning of the novel. I even loved her shutdowns every time he tried to get close. But after a while, her emotions started to feel a bit routine which made a few key moments between her and Lex feel rushed. I wanted a bit of a slowdown with them. I wanted to feel the tension and feel the burn more between them. I wanted the fire and gasoline moment, the explosion. And I didnโ€™t feel that when I should have. Now donโ€™t get me wrong, I really loved the storyline, the hockey, the steam, and the swoon. I just needed a little bit more to tip the scale towards the five star mark.

If youโ€™re looking for a swoony romance with a sweet hero who will do anything for the woman he loves, look no further! Slapshot by Rebecca Jenshak can be read as a standalone and is currently available with Kindle Unlimited!
