Summer nights and star-crossed lovers! From USA Today bestselling author Sarina Bowen.

Once upon a time, he gave me a summer of friendship, followed by one perfect night. We shared a lot during our short time together. But he skipped a few crucial details.

I didn’t know he was a rock star.

I didn’t know his real name.

Neither of us knew I’d get pregnant.

And I sure never expected to see him again.

Five years later, his tour bus pulls up in Nest Lake, Maine. My little world is about to be shattered by loud music and the pounding of my own foolish heart.

What more could a lover of angst ask for?

In My Own Words:

One summer was all it took for Jonas to fall head over heels in love.
One summer was all it took to wash away all Kira’s fears.
One summer has the potential to last a lifetime

But what happens when that one summer is up and you’re faced with a bed of lies?

After a tragedy is inflicted upon her, Kira spends her summer with her dad in Nest Lake trying to regroup and forget about the night that changed everything. Never in her wildest dreams imagining that it would be the summer to change everything, for the better. Never in her wildest dreams would she imagine the man with blue/green eyes, charm, and a friendly smile is about to knock her on her ass.

That one summer, five years ago, spent in Nest Lake is one he won’t ever forget. After all, it’s next to impossible to forget the place you last left your heart in. Two days is all he wants for his band. Two days of peace and quiet to regroup and refresh. It’s what he, Quinn, and Nixon all need. But fate has other plans in mind. Plans that are in the form of a four year old child with his blue/green eyes and her mother who has haunted his dreams the very moment he left Nest Lake.

My Thoughts:

AHH! I have to admit, I’m a goner when it comes to secret baby romances. I’m absolutely addicted to the ‘Surprise, you’re a daddy!’ theme in Lies and Lullabies. If you asked me what my all time favorite trope is, it would definitely be this exact one. There’s something super angsty about a man finding out he fathered a child and didn’t know about it… but what’s even more thrilling is what the man decides to do with this information. What can I say, I love angst in my novels, and you can’t get any more angsty than a scandalous secret that has the power to shake up everyone’s life.

The very first page captured my attention. In fact, I had a damn hard time trying to put down Jonas and Kira’s story. I even excused myself under the disguise that I was going to bed, but in all actuality, I binged the hell out of the final forty percent last night. How could I not, It’s an easy novel to get wrapped up in and swept away with.

I loved the fact that Jonas isn’t the typical womanizing male whore rockstar… anymore. I’m not going to lie and say he didn’t diddle his fingers in some scandalous extracurricular activities, because let’s face the facts, this man is a rockstar. Rock stars are known, at the start of their career, to be man whores… Everyone has a past, it’s what you do with that past that really defines the person you are now. You can change your ways and become a better you or you can sink below the surface and keep on the path of destruction, the choice is ultimately yours. What I liked most about Jonas is the way he acted when he found out he had a child. He didn’t threaten to take her away, he didn’t constantly spit harsh words at his daughter’s mom. This man realized quickly, he was in the wrong also, and instead of adding a level of separation, he did what he had to do to be the best man he could be for his daughter. He’s admirable in so many ways.

Now Kira, on the other hand, I found her to be a bit frustrating. In hindsight, I understand completely why she was so hesitant to bring Jonas into not only Vivi’s life, but also her life. I mean, come on, the man used an alias so he could stay hidden under the cover of anonymity. My one small issue with Kira was simple and it all stems back to the lack of communication. To put it simple, you don’t ghost a man who just found out he has a daughter, you don’t stop answering a phone because you’re angry at the father of your child before you even hear his side of the story… This is where giving him the benefit of the doubt, should have come into play….. But Aside from her one small communication error, I loved her character. I loved her strength and I loved her insecurities. This woman has been through it all, and she still managed to rise above everything in order to be the best mother she could be for Vivi.

Do I recommend this novel?
