I was at the top of my game. I knew who I was and what direction my life was headed. I owned the most prestigious night clubs down the east coast yet I kept my identity a secret. I don’t like being in the lime light and my hometown was none of anyone’s business. However, making people happy was. I did that with my clubs. Until the day tragedy struck my family. I had a choice to make and it wasn’t an easy one.
At the end of the day, family always comes first. I went home to take care of my mom and the ranch. I didn’t plan on that little smart mouth Hope showing up with a laptop in hand. Just out of a cheating relationship the girl was hell bent on hating all men. Me included. Hating me wasn’t the only thing she came back home for. She needed a quiet place to write her next article. Her interest? The man that suddenly closed down all the upscale clubs on the east coast.
I wanted to be anonymous for a reason. I didn’t want the cameras and all the tabloids in mine or my family’s business. So, I don’t give her anything. Well, nothing she wants anyhow.
I give her the cowboy, the man that I’ve once again become with the dirty mouth. Until she learns the truth and wants to run with it. I should have known that a second chance at love wouldn’t happen for me. All fairy tales have to end, right?

Erin Trejo is a new to me author. It’s always exciting when I get the opportunity to experience a new author’s work for the first time. So let’s get to what this novel is about.
About Dirty Cowboy:
Gentry is a swoony cowboy who has merged off the path to follow he and his father’s dream of owning nightclubs. Years later and he found himself with a successful business worth a fortune. Gentry is at the top of his game and nothing can hold him back from landing among the stars. Until he receives news from home that has him tumbling down to the ground. His father has passed away.
Now Gentry can’t see anything in his horizon’s aside from heading back home and taking care of the farm and his mother.
Hope is where she’s always wanted to be. She’s a journalist for a night hot spot magazine and she has the biggest case of her career. A nightclub owner just sold his clubs and walked away without a care. But the big question is… who is the owner. Aside from her career, Hope just had her world rocked when she walked in on her boyfriend with another woman…. In her office. She calls the only person she knows who will care, Gentry’s mom.
Now she finds herself back at the one place she’s ever felt at home, and running into a blast from her past. Her ex boyfriend and the love of her life, Gentry…. But not everything is sunshine and rainbows. They have a past of miscommunication they have to try and overcome.
My Thoughts:
Dirty Cowboy by Erin Trejo is one of the many books released in the Cocky Hero Club. The Cocky Hero Club is a series, so to say, revolving around Vi Keeland and Penelope Wards Cocky Heroes. I love the fact that Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward are introducing me to authors, let’s be honest, these authors aren’t ones I would normally gravitate towards. If I learned one thing from this collection it’s to widen my horizons and merge on a different path. Experience new authors and find new favorites.
Dirty Cowboy is Gentry and Hope’s story. It’s about a Country boy who falls for a city girl. Usually I find myself gravitating towards novels involving cowboys and ranching/farming settings/tropes. I tend to read what I know. There’s something about this country boy/city girl trope that I always find humorous. I typically love the romances that evolve with this trope.
I found it difficult to rate and review this novel. There were moments I loved and moments where I wanted more from the characters and the storyline.
I loved the hell out of Gentry. I loved his swoony cowboy sex appeal. I loved the fact that he was down to earth but also had those strong alpha vibes. I just needed a bit more alpha to get him up to my book boyfriend standards. Hope was a tad bit flighty for me. I found it hard to connect with her and that initially led to my inability to connect with Gentry and Hope as a couple.
I wanted to love these two, and believe me, there were moments when I caught a glimpse of what these two could be. Their relationship is destined for greatness, as all second chance romances are, but the quick pace of this novel didn’t allow me the chance to actually connect with them on a deeper and more emotional level.
Overall, I didn’t hate this novel but I didn’t love it. My rating lands somewhere in the middle of the two. I actually enjoyed the moments when Hope and Gentry meshed on the farm. I loved her willingness to learn a new lifestyle. I LOVED this all so much, and these moments are when I captured that glimpse of Gentry and Hope and all the greatness they could have had. I wanted more moments like this and less of the back and forth between the two. COMMUNICATION is key. I needed more communication and more chemistry between the two.
