Boston’s debauched elite is going up in flames, and it’s the Fitzpatrick family that set it on fire.

Hunter

I didn’t mean to star in a sex tape, okay?

It was just one of those unexplainable things. Like Stonehenge, Police Academy 2, and morning glory clouds.

It just happened.

Now my ball-busting father is sentencing me to six months of celibacy, sobriety, and morbid boredom under the roof of Boston’s nerdiest girl alive, Sailor Brennan.

The virginal archer is supposed to babysit my ass while I learn to take my place in Royal Pipelines, my family’s oil company.

Little does she know, that’s not the only pipe I’ll be laying…

Sailor

I didn’t want this gig, okay?

But the deal was too sweet to walk away from.

I needed the public endorsement; Hunter needed a nanny.

Besides, what’s six months in the grand scheme of things?

It’s not like I’m in danger of falling in love with the appallingly gorgeous, charismatic gazillionaire who happens to be one of Boston’s most eligible bachelors.

No. I will remain immune to Hunter Fitzpatrick’s charm.

Even at the cost of losing everything I have.

Even at the cost of burning down his kingdom.

Excerpt

“Why?” I asked, blinking at him in confusion. I had two left legs and the coordination of roadkill. I couldn’t dance if my life depended on it. I’d tried dancing at the only party I’d ever gone to—sophomore year—and was subjected to such thorough humiliation. People took videos of me dancing and forwarded it to half my school. Saggy Sailor, they’d graffiti-ed on my locker. Apparently, my back looked hunched and droopy when I danced.

“Because…” He tilted his chin down, his voice low, smoldering. “You’re obviously bored, and my family is watching us, and I’m partial to fondling you.”

“It’s the dress,” I muttered.

“I’d actually prefer fondling you out of it.”

I sliced my gaze sideways, noticing that Aisling and Persy hadn’t picked up on my exchange with him. They were now watching a video, probably of the reality show they were arguing about. Even though Hunter was just after a friendly dance to show his family we were getting along, I couldn’t unglue my butt from my chair.

“No fondling.” I crossed my arms over my chest, buying time.

“No promises. Get up.”

“Did you tell anyone we live together?” I accused, my eyes narrowing into slits.

He stared at me, wide-eyed, mouth parted. “Negatory.”

“Did you tell anyone we were dating?”

“This is the lamest twenty-questions game I’ve ever participated in. No.

“Well, people are talking about us.”

“That’s what people do. They fill the air with useless words to entertain each other. It’s called gossip, and it sucks all the asses in the world. Doesn’t mean it was me. Our building employs more than a hundred people. All of them work for my father. That means he’s spreading whatever the hell he wants to spread.”

Book Review (10)

LJ Shen has a way with words! I picked this book up early this morning and spent all day devouring every single word!!! I couldn’t get enough of Hunter and Sailor. This was a perfect way to kick off a brand new series!!!!

About The Hunter:

The hunter is the first book in LJ Shen’s Boston Belles series. And is told from both Hunter Fitzpatrick and Sailor Brennon’s point of view.

Hunter is known around the world as a womanizing manwhore. Being the son of a gazillionaire and the heir to an oil tycoon gives him every possiblity a man could ever want. Until his latest shenanigan involving five woman and a sex tape get him sent to the hot seat and his name irrevocably removed from his family’s will. Just when Hunter thinks his father has ruined his life, his father throws in another curveball, a deal of sorts. If Hunter can stay celibate and sober for six months, he’ll put Hunter back in the will and give him back his inheiritance.

That’s where Sailor Brennon comes in the picture.

Sailor is an Olympic hopeful thanks to her amazing archery skills. But being the daughter of a…. Respectable business man unless proven otherwise….. Doesn’t shine her in the brightest light. When Hunter Fitzpatrick comes to her and offers her the deal of a lifetime, she finds it hard to refuse. All she has to due is act as his nanny/babysitter for six short months and his father will sponsor her and make sure her Olympic dreams become an Olympic reality.

My thoughts:

Completely MIND BLOWN!!! L.J. Shen can do no wrong when writing egotistical assholes who somehow, give or take a few heroes, end up having hearts of gold. How is it possible to fall for every single hero written?!

Hunter Fitzpatrick is your typical trust fund baby. He’s got the world in the palm of his hand, there is nothing that money can’t buy him and nothing that money can’t get him out of. I loved the fact that there were two very complex sides to Hunter. I see a neglected boy who craved nothing but love and affection as a child, he was of course denied all that and grew up into a petulant man who worked for nothing he earned. But I also see a man who is afraid to open up his heart for fear that he’ll be left feeling the disappointment he felt as a child time and time again. This man is an enigma. There were so many layers to discover!

Sailor was a surprise for me. To be honest, at the beginning of this novel I wasn’t sure if I would like her character. But the more I read and the more that was uncovered, I found myself liking her just a tiny bit more than I liked Hunter’s character. Mainly I loved the fact that this woman was portrayed as a mousy shy meek girl on the outside, but beneath the surface lived a woman who has the ability to reign down hellfire on anyone who wrongs her or her loved ones! She was a force to be reckoned with!

I also loved the fact that Sailor was very involved in Archery. This is a sport we don’t see much in romance novels. It was awesome to see it incorporated so heavily in this novel.

My absolute favorite thing about this novel was the witty back and forth banter between Sailor and Hunter. These two are complete opposites and in this situation opposites did not attract at first.

Overall, L.J. Shen wrote one hell of a story!!! I can’t wait to see what’s coming next in the Boston Belles series. It’s going to be hard to top Hunter and Sailor’s story!!!!

  1. You’re making me want to read this one even though I have up on Shen’s books after Broken Knight. I might just have to read this one anyways… Great review!
