There, amongst the craft beer and pork rinds, she comes face to face with her high school boyfriend, Brennan McLean. He’s a rockstar. She’s a nurse. To say life led them in different directions would be putting it mildly. Still, time hasn’t lessened the electric chemistry between them. By the end of the night more was dropping than just the ball.
Convincing herself she could have fun without getting attached, Natalie treats herself to a weekend tangled in the sheets with him. But that lie she told herself pops faster than champagne bubbles.
With media rumors swirling around Brennan, can the pair find a way to make their unlikely relationship work? Or will Natalie’s resolution not to get her heart broken meet a painful end?

Book Review (10)

A Date For Midnight is the first novel in The Dating Series by Heidi McLaughlin and L.P. Dover. The second chance romance is short and sweet. I’d call this one a novella given there are only nine chapters.

Brennan McLean craves the anonymity he used to have before he became a superstar. Being in the music business makes one realize, your days of trusting are long gone. Now Brennan is back home and after a huge snowstorm hits, it looks like he’s staying home for the new year.

Newly divorced Natalie is ready to pick up the pieces and start her life over again. So imagine her surprise when she runs into her high school boyfriend, Brennan, at the local grocery store. Fate has a funny way of intervening.

My Thoughts:

Over the past few years I have quickly become a fan of second chance romances and I have to say, Natalie and Brennan’s romance takes the cake! This romance is just as sexy as it is sweet. I couldn’t get enough.

I loved the fact that Brennan and Natalie were high school sweethearts. But as they were growing closer to graduation, they realized their dreams and goals were leading them on two different journeys. Brennan wanted to reach for the stars and sing his songs while Natalie wanted to help people and save lives. So with two different career paths, they ended their relationship on good terms. Now A chance encounter forces Natalie and Brennan to meet face to face once more. I could feel the sparks and the heat between these two characters as they locked eyes for the first time in years. The connection was still there and I can assume was just as great as it’s always been.

I loved Brennan and his need for freedom and a life away from the limelight and I loved Natalie and her need to feel the worth that she’s capable of feeling. I loved how both characters were a bit jaded but as soon as they stood in each others presence those broken pieces started to mend again.

Overall, I loved A Date For Midnight, but if I’m being honest, I wanted so much more from this story. I would have loved to experience Brennan and Natalie’s beginning years in high school. I wanted to feel that first time love they talked so highly about. I wanted the passion and the vulnerability that comes with first love. Basically, I wish this wasn’t a novella. I wish we would have gotten a more in-depth version of Natalie and Brennan’s story. There was so much potential for a novel from a novella that I really enjoyed.
