Hook Shot is a very compelling and at some times emotional read. I had a hard time putting this novel down! Hats off to Kennedy Ryan’s ability to write another novel that had me escaping the real world.

About Hook Shot:

Hook Shot is a complicated story which has many facets. Kenan is a high-profile NBA player. He’s at the prime of his career and is looking retirement in the eyes. Which makes his divorce the talk of the century. But his main focus is on getting his teenage daughter through this hurdle unscathed.

Lotus Dupree dreams of being a fashion designer and working under the best will get her to where she wants to be. After her past memories decides to finally catch up with her, she decides to swear off men for the perceivable future. Of course, the moment she decides her new plan, the sexiest man she’s ever laid eyes on steps into her world. Making fate, yet again, a fickle bitch.

My Thoughts:

I’m going to start off this portion of my review by stating that I freaking adored Lotus! Lotus has been on my mind ever since I was introduced to her in Long Shot. I always found this woman to be a mystery. With her Cajun roots and the talk of voodoo and Gris-gris, how could I not be intrigued! I loved the fire and the spirit that lived within Lotus’s character. Simple as that.

They say it takes a strong man to be with a strong woman. Kennedy Ryan couldn’t have matched Lotus and Kenan up any better. They were pure, flawless, and absolute perfection. I loved the way these two vibe together. They were both barely hanging on solo while battling their own demons, but together they freaking slayed all that shit.

I honestly felt a deep connection with Kenan’s daughter Simone. This has never happened to me before, I never felt this much of a connection with a secondary character. My heart hurt so bad for her. I wanted to reach within the pages and hug this poor girl. I may have cried a tear…or two.. or ten for this poor angel.

To all those currently going through a situation like Kenan and Bridget, just remember one simple thing, little ears have the power to hear everything. Even when you think they aren’t listening…. their listening and your words hurt them even more than you’re hurting.

With that being said, I did like how Kenan completely controlled the situation. Even though his ex-wife didn’t care what their daughter heard (or at times she didn’t seem to care) he always made sure he pointed his anger at her behind closed doors and in hushed whispers. He never really let his anger get out of control just a little bit heated. And even though he’s only a fictional character and these are only fictional situations, I found myself respecting this man even more than I initially had.

Overall, Hook Shot was a great novel. I loved the fact that this novel had not only truth behind it but also a great deal of meaning written within the lines. I also loved the hidden messages, the basic one being respect is earned, not given.
