Blurb:

The summer before my senior year of high school I had only one goal: to make Alden Warner see me as more than his best friend’s annoying little sister.

Finally, my wish came true and he noticed me. In a big way. Too bad that the next morning he had no memory of our night together, leaving me heartbroken, and as I later discovered…pregnant.

For the last four years, I’ve been rocking the single mom thing, making sure my daughter comes first. In fact, everything is going fine—until Alden storms back into my life, as my new boss.

His reappearance wasn’t something I planned for. Add my nosy, meddlesome three-year-old and an overprotective brother, and I’m obviously in way over my head.

My only hope now is that I can sway Alden to see things my way…but you know what they say about the best laid plans…

Best Laid Plans is an emotionally angsty novel! I was way in over my head with this one, and I didn’t even have a clue!

About Best Laid Plans:

Natalie has always harbored feelings for her older brother’s best friend. As a young age she crushed hard on Alden, and then one night at a party she witnessed Alden glancing at her new curves so she decided to act on the lust shining in his eyes. One night is all she thought they needed for Alden to realize what they had could be good. Until the morning after when Alden woke up and didn’t remember anything that happened the night before. Months later, Natalie is looking the harsh evidence of the unremembered one night stand in the form of a positive pregnancy test.

Now, Natalie is busy working, taking online college classes, and being the very best mother she can possibly be for her daughter Tatum. When she finds out the cafe she is working at just switched owners, she’s scared she’s going to lose her job. that is until the new owner shows up and is none other than Alden… Now Natalie is in a corner and forced to tell the truth behind who Tatum’s father is.

My Thoughts:

Holy hell, LK Farlow brings the angst with her newest novel, Best Laid Plans. Natalie and Alden’s story is as heartbreaking as it is heartwarming.

I’m a huge fan of the SURPRISE! YOU’RE A DADDY trope. I feel like this trope has the ability to heighten a reader’s emotion. Not only does the situation pull at the heartstrings but the first time the daddy lays eyes on his child is something I just can’t get over!

All the freaking feels!

Plus, this one also incorporates another favorite trope of mine and that’s the brothers-best-friend trope. How can something so forbidden and wrong, feel so damn right. Alden and Natalie are a perfect example for so wrong but so right.

I now have to praise LK Farlow for what felt like an honest to god truth behind all the emotions that shined bright in this novel. Not only between Natalie and Alden, but also Nat’s father’s reaction when he found out his teenage daughter was pregnant. That was the most heartbreaking scene I’ve probably ever read. I legit cried. Being a daddy’s girl, I can understand how horrible it would be to see that kind of disappointment in my father’s eyes…..Holy hell, I’m tearing up just thinking about it.

Alden and Natalie’s story is emotionally heartbreaking and relentless on the heartstrings. My emotions were all over the place with this novel. I was angry at Natalie but I was also understanding of her situation. I wanted to slap Alden upside the head for being a douche canoe, but I also understood his reasoning for being a major asshat…See what I’m telling you….EMOTIONALLY WHIPLASHED.

As always, another tiny tot stole the show for me and she comes in the form of a feisty stubborn little princess named Tatum. I freaking loved Tatum a.k.a Tater Tot! She’s the most adorable kid! I loved her ability to tie everyone around her little finger but most of all I loved her spirit! So freaking cute!!!

Overall, I really loved Best Laid Plans, this novel is freaking brutal on the heart but in the end the brutality inflicted is mended and that seems to make it all okay. I loved Tatum and her daddy moments. I wish there were a few more one on one moments with her and Alden but other than that, it was a great heartfelt novel.
