If you are a lover of second chance romances, this is the one for you!

Roni Loren is a new-to-me author and trust me when I say, I will definitely be checking more of this author’s work out! The Ones Who Got Away is a second chance romance but not only that it’s also a novel about four people who are brought together after a traumatic situation impacts all of their lives. Four girls come together on the twelfth anniversary of that tragic night when a producer wants to do a documentary on that horrible night. While the girls are together they decide to open a time capsule and read a letter each had written.

This story is based on one of those four girls (Liv Arias).

Having to take her mothers maiden name to gain some anonymity Liv now lives a safe life with no chances of surprises. That is until she goes back home and runs into the boy who stole her heart.

Finn Dorsey was the typical rich jock. Only this jock had a secret girlfriend. Liv was the girl who lived on the other side of town with a landscaper as a father. She wasn’t the type of girl Finn’s father would approve of. Finn has lived with guilt for the past twelve years, guilt that fuels his rage and has him taking dangerous missions as a FBI agent.

When Finn and Liv meet up again, there is an intensity unlike any others! Their relationship is a slow build that is fueled with loads of sexual tension. I loved Finn and Olivia in their own way, but I really enjoyed them together. The two are hilarious with their sexual innuendos and their back and forth banter.

One thing I loved about this novel is the fact that it was told in dual point of views. You get the inside story of what is actually going on in both Liv and Finn’s heads!

This novel isn’t all about hilarity. There is a strong seriousness to the subject and message portrayed in this novel. As a reviewer I feel it is my job to warn readers of possible trigger warnings. If you don’t want to be spoiled stop reading right now.

This novel is based on the aftereffects caused by a school shooting. There are slight flashbacks and conversations surrounding around this subject matter. If this is a trigger for you, I highly recommend you go into this novel with your eyes and mind open. I’m not going to tell you not to read this novel. It’s a great story full of second chances and moving on from a really tough situation, a story that I feel touches on the subject flawlessly and with tender care.

The Ones Who Got Away is a novel that I highly recommend!

Peace Love and Happy Reading,
