Welcome to the first installment of Blogger Bits. A few of us book blogging ladies have teamed together to share our opinions on certain subjects and our favorite books. If you all like this leave a comment and if you have any requests for future topics you would like to see leave that in the comments also!
Because it is so close to Father’s day we decided to do our first Blogger Bit topic in honor of all the amazing dads, step-fathers, and male caregivers!
Happy Father’s Day to all!
Fathers In Literature
When I think or hear the word Father ย I ultimately think of someone who would go to the end of the earth for his kids. Someone who would protect his children at all cost no matter what the situation is. A teddy bear that isn’t afraid to let his inner grizzly bear out in order to protect his loved ones.
A real-life hero.
Step aside Superman and Spider-Man itโs the dad’s day to shine!
My standards when it comes to fathers in literature is set pretty high due to the fact that I have a pretty kick ass dad. A little background information, my dad is my hero and has literally been through hell and back. When I was five he was diagnosed with Goodpasture syndrome and nearly died from it. Because of this disease he had to undergo a kidney transplant. He will have this disease for the rest of his life and even though he’s been sick my whole life he never lets it get him down. He never lets his illness dictate his life. Even after all this time he still always has a smile on his face and a joke on hand for anyone that is needing a laugh.
I guess you can say I’m picky about fathers in the books I read but that’s only because my own father set the bar high. What can I say, I’m a daddy’s girl, always have been and always will be.
Now onto my picks for my favorite fathers.
The two fatherโs Iโm about to list first arenโt main characters, but they donโt have to be because these two guys are the reason behind the whole troop of alpha men we all came to love in the romance world! Here are the Fatherโs that each raised a brood of strong and independent Alphaโs who would burn the earth down to protect the ones they love!

Jim Maddoxย is theย father of Travis (Beautiful Disaster), Trenton (Beautiful Oblivion), Thomas (Beautiful Redemption), Taylor (Beautiful Sacrifice), Tyler (Beautiful Burn). Jim stands out in my mind because of not only his humor but also the way he gave advise to his boys, it reminds me of my dad and his โwords of wisdom’ that I refer to as lectures. I love the way he isn’t afraid to step in and parent his kids when needed even when they are adults. (I am not caught up on the series yet. Meaning I have not read Beautifulย Funeral yet so please, no spoilers!)
ย

JAMES MAYSONย is the father of Asher (Until November), Trevor (Until Trevor), Cashย (Until Lilly), and Nico (Until Nico). This man had help in creating the ultimate #BOOM that has swept through the romance world. This man is a true family man, and like Jim heโs all about setting down with his stubborn sons and having a heart to heart . Thatโs a trait that I expect coming from a father type character. James is a kickass father who had a hand in raising four sons that turned out to be amazing (and somewhat overprotective) Fathers also!
I love a good father/daughter story. I love when a dad will sit with his daughter and have a tea party or he isnโt scared of anyone finding out his daughter gives him makeovers and puts ribbons and bows in his hair…even if his daughter accidentally forgets to take one of the hair clips out of his hair and he happens to go down to the local general store with it right on top of his head (SORRY DADDY, I will never live that one down.) Here are my picks for my favorite daddy daughter books!

Simon is not only is this man a single dad but heโs a single dad that is doing it right! You can clearly see throughout this novel that Simon always puts his daughter first. Her needs come before everything else. He is also very encouraging when his daughter wants to try something new. I feel like Simon is just perfect when trying to describe the perfect Father/Daughter relationship, especially at that young of an age where being nurturing is really important.

This is one of my absolute favorite father/child relationship stories. Steve was a very patient man when it came to handling Ronnie (His teenage daughter). Things between Steve and Ronnie are Rocky, showing that not every relationship between a father and his child are strong. Ronnie was emotionally hurt by both her parents when they separated and with Steve not really in the picture any longer, He had to work that summer at getting his kids to open up and to see that their dad is still their dad and he still loves them no matter what. Did i mention i love this story!
Last but not least, here are a few of my favorite Step-Fathers. I think Step fathers are the strongest among them all, it takes a special kind of man to step in and care for a child the way a true father would. Like my daddy always says anyone can make a baby but it takes a true man to stay and help raise a child. Iโve never personally had a stepfather but Iโve known some pretty kick ass guys that did a hell of a job raising children and bringing them up as their own. Here are my favorite Stepfathers in the romance world!

Not only could Mr. Watters go under father/daughter and Father/Son category but he can also go under a stepfather category. Zach Watters is on my list for one reasonโฆHis character proves that not everyoneโs life is perfectโฆbut if you commit a wrong there is always time to make it right. Zach was there for his kids.ย Then he stepped in and became the male figure that Shelbyโs son Hunter needed in his life.
ย
I know Cooper is fairly new to the book boyfriend world and everyone may not have read about him yet but let me just list a few reasons why Cooper made it on my list. This man literally took two broken kids and opened up their hearts after their own dad has been in and out of the picture since their parentsโ divorce. This man stepped in and became a mentor to Michael and an actual dad like figure that Allison can look up to and rely on. Not only that but he also opened up Parkerโs heart and made her see that every storm has a silver lining. This man is the ULTIMATE stepfather.
ย
I learned two things while looking through the many books I have read over the years.ย The first thing being, it is really difficult to find a Father figure that rises to my standards of what I expect a true father to be, not only that but the simple fact that these days in the literary world, the parents get put on the back burner. It seems like itโs a common thing to have the parents die or be completely nonexistent. I find this to be really sad. I get that it is easier and makes the story seem more angsty when the main characters have no one to turn to, but seriouslyโฆ
could we not have the parents be dead or shitty in a few novels PLEASE!
And the second, I am way behind on my single father novelsโฆI need to catch up on this scene because I am missing out on so much single hot dad material!

These are all new to me Dads . . . more to add to my TBR! Check out my post: https://hersforthereadingsite.wordpress.com/2017/06/15/blogger-bits-fathers-in-literature/
Yay! I’m glad I could help add to your TBR! You can never have too many books on your shelf!
Wonderful post!! Most of these fathers are new to me too. Will have to check them out.;-)
Thank You <3 Check out Wide Open Spaces…this book has all the feels!
I have a feeling I’ll soon get acquainted with Simon Travers. The Sexy One has been on a TBR for way too long and I’m apparently in the mood for some single dads.
After reading all these posts today I can agree with you on that one! The Sexy One was cute! I love Simon <3 I can't wait to see what you think of him!
We have a match! We both love Simon! I love how the first two were fathers of our heroes! What a great way to think of it!
Thanks! I love spinning things around and looking at it from all angles to add a twist in the mix. Plus I loved the glimpses of both James and Jim from the novels! Even though they aren’t main characters they stuck in my head.
Simon is so SWOONY!
I <3 HIM
