Title: Somebody Else’s Sky
Series: Something In The Way
Author: Jessica Hawkins
Genre: New Adult/Contemporary/Angst
Publication Date: May 22nd, 2017
My Rating: ✮✮✮✮✮
Synopsis:
If I closed my eyes, I could still see them—all blonde sunshine, ocean-blue eyes, and long limbs. The glint of Lake’s gold bracelet. Pink cotton candy on Tiffany’s tongue. My scenery may have changed from heaven to hell, but some things never would: my struggle to do right by both sisters. To let Lake soar. To lift Tiffany up. The sacrifices I made for them, I made willingly.
A better man would’ve walked away by now, but I never claimed to be any good. I only promised myself I’d keep enough distance. If I’d learned one thing from my past, it was that love came in different forms. You could love passionately, hurt deep, die young. Or you could provide the kind of firm, steady support someone else could lean on.
Lake was everything I wanted, and nothing I could ever have. I was nobody before I knew her and a criminal after. The way to love her was to let her shine—even if it would be for somebody else.

Before I start this review, let me give you some background information on this series.
Have you read Something in the Way?
If not then you really should before reading Somebody Else’s Sky. Somebody Else’s Sky is book two and picks up right where book one ends.

Now the story line. For those who haven’t read book one yet, I’m not going into major details so you won’t be spoiled….too much.
This series circles around three people. First we have Manning, Manning is a twenty (something) year old man with goals and dreams of being a police officer. We also have two sisters, Tiffany and Lake. Tiffany is a few years younger than Manning and she is pretentious and self-absorbed. She needs the spotlight on her twenty-four seven and will try to kill the spotlight if it’s shining to brightly on someone else. Deep..Deep…Down Tiffany has reasons for why she is the way she is. Let’s just chalk it up to ‘Daddy Issues’. Then we have Lake. At the start of this series Lake is a fifteen year old high school overachiever. In a way she is forced by her dad to be perfect. Her dad has had one dream and that is for one of his children to attend USC the college he attended, so instead of living her own life she is walking the line her dad is drawing up for her. The web tangles when Manning starts the construction of a house right next door to Tiffany and Lake’s house.
Tiffany falls for Manning’s appearance; Lake falls for Manning’s heart.
One of those feelings is stronger than the other and to protect one of these girls Manning risks his dreams and his freedom.

Somebody Else’s Sky, picks up a year after Something in the Way ends. Since this book is a tangle of emotions and plot twists I’m not going into too much detail.
Lake is seventeen and has finally grown into her body and gained her self-esteem. She can’t wait for the day that Manning is finally able to set eyes on her. however, Tiffany has other plans for when Manning comes back.
This novel completely gutted me. My heart was literally stuck in my throat through the whole damn thing. I really loved that Manning had morals in this novel. Instead of listening to his head and acting out on his wants he listened to his heart and did what he thought was right even when it crushed him completely. I loved the way he was with both girls. With Tiffany he was that support that she needed to finally grow the hell up, and with Lake he was the person that motivated her to let go and he showed her that it is okay to have fun, life is to short not to.
With this novel you get even more invested in the characters. I found myself cheering both girls on. I want both girls to have their happily ever after, sadly though when there is only one man involved only one sister can come out as the winner.
I’m sad, I’m truly the saddest I’ve ever been after reading a novel, and the worst part of all I can’t even talk about why I’m sad….YET. I can’t wait to read the conclusion to this series. I have a feeling I know where this story is going….but I learned recently, you never know what tricks Jessica Hawkins has up her sleeve.
I changed my star rating on this novel so many times I decided to sit down and write a pro and cons list. I loved this book, but it was crazy intense and left me a weeping mess. Most would see that as a con….Nope for me that is a definite Pro. I love angsty novels and this novel was way up there on the angsty scale. Also another pro was the fact that this novel wasn’t chalked full of sexy time scenes. It was basically run off pure emotion and heartbreak. So for those that love the angst but not the sex, Somebody Else’s Sky and this series is one hundred percent for you. In the end I changed my four star rating to a five. This novel is well worth the five stars I gave it!

Jessica Hawkins grew up between the purple mountains and under the endless sun of Palm Springs, California. She studied international business at Arizona State University and has also lived in Costa Rica and New York City. To her, the most intriguing fiction is forbidden, and that’s what you’ll find in her stories. Currently, she resides wherever her head lands, which is often the unexpected (but warm) keyboard of her trusty MacBook.
Peace Love and Happy Reading,
