Synopsis (on Goodreads)
Miranda: Even though I’m broke, putting myself through college, and working two jobs, I’m trying to make the best of it. Meanwhile, Jake Birch, hockey’s hottest bad boy, lives in a luxury hotel in downtown Chicago—and still complains about every little thing in his penthouse. But after I tell him off, instead of getting me fired, Jake requests me as his personal housekeeper. Then he starts flirting with me. Only I’m not flirting back . . . at least, I’m trying not to. Did I mention that he’s hockey’s hottest bad boy?
Jake: I’ve met the best woman at the worst possible time. Miranda is the fire to my ice—a sexy, charmingly candid spark who breaks down my walls and reminds me what it’s like to feel again. But I’m being forced to date my team owner’s daughter to keep my job, so I can’t be caught with Miranda. Still, we’re getting closer—until Miranda finds out about my “girlfriend.” And that’s not the only secret I’ve been keeping. But Miranda’s the one I want . . . even if she doesn’t believe me.

My Thoughts:
I received an arc of Hooked through netgalley
This is the first novel I’ve read by Author Brenda Rothert and let me just say I was…….Hooked!
This story centers around a NHL Hockey star and a hotel maid! The concept and the characters all vibe well together. I love Miranda the most. She’s so independent. Some may say she comes off stubborn but i love that about her. She’s just the girl to put Jake in his place. She doesn’t fall for his ‘pick up lines’ and refuses to cave towards his advances. That in the end is the reason why Jake falls head over feet for her.
Hooked isn’t all rainbows and unicorns though! Jake has been through a lot in his life. I felt for him and understood why he was such an ego maniac. That is the only way he could cope with the lose that he suffered four years ago. Coping and just barely getting by he focuses day to day on the game until it becomes an obsession for him. That is until he meets Miranda. For the first time he wants and needs to tell her everything that has been weighing on his shoulders. For the first time he isn’t guarding his heart and is able to let the wall down, but a force to be reckoned with that goes by the name Haley could possibly ruin everything Miranda and Jake have built.
Ugh i hate psycho Haley!!!! and let me tell you, she is as psycho as they come! If ever there was a character that needed serious psychiatric treatment Haley is that character. I thought her interference between the two could have been a little more drawn out. She just came in at the most random times. But in a way it was a good thing because it made her the perfect little psychotic villain that was suppose to be portrayed. I would have loved to see more scheming on her part though, instead of crying, whining, and anger.
Other than that, i loved Jake and Miranda’s story! What’s not to love when there is a sexy Hockey star involved!!!
Peace Love and Happy Reading,
