Title: Anti-Stepbrother
Series: Standalone!
Author: Tijan
Genre: New Adult
Publisher:
Release Date: August 22nd
My Rating: 5 Stars
Synopsis (From Goodreads)
He told me to ‘settle, girl.’
He asked if ‘something was wrong with me?’
He said I was an ‘easy target.’
That was within minutes when I first met Caden Banks.
I labeled him an *sshole, but he was more than that. Arrogant. Smug. Alpha.
He was also to-die-for gorgeous, and my stepbrother’s fraternity brother.
Okay, yes I was a little naive, a tad bit socially awkward, and the smallest amount of stalker-ish, but if Caden Banks thought he could tell me what to do, he had another thing coming.
I came to college with daydreams about being with my stepbrother, but what if I fell for the anti-stepbrother instead?
My Review!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest Review
Before i start this review i want to let everyone know I’ve written a draft for this review so many times trying to not include spoilers. I realized one thing. It’s not possible to say anything about this novel without there being a little bit of spoiling involved. So therefore this review may be on the short side
5 stars!
Tijan is one of my favorite authors. After reading the broken and screwed series and loving it and then jumping into the Jaded series and loving that even more. But especially after reading the Falling Crest High series i have come to a conclusion….
Tijan is from another planet!
Anti-Stepbrother….
It should be no surprise to you that i loved this novel
Anti-Stepbrother is full of drama and humorous scenes that will no doubt have you laughing out loud in public places and embarrassing the hell out of yourself! Trust me when i say i know this from experience! Also Anti-Stepbrother had two different sides to the story..How Can i explain this to where i make sense. Okay so there was the happy, humorous side to things like the jokes and back and forth banter between the friends. But then there is also a serious side to Anti-Stepbrother. I don’t want to give anything away so let me end this part by saying Caden and Marcus are living with a secret that is not their’s to tell! I thought that portion of the novel blended in perfectly. So on one side you had the funny Summer side but you also had Caden’s need to keep people at a distance.I was left wondering why is he like this until…BAM…the secrets are exposed and i was left thinking holy crap this book just took a dark turn
Anti-Stepbrother centers around Summer and the love she thinks she feels for her stepbrother Kevin. When Summer witnesses her stepbrother in the arms of another woman at a frat party her heart breaks. Enter Caden Banks….Trying to get out of the house as fast as humanly possible Summer runs into Caden…After a rough start to a conversation, she labels Caden with the nickname “Asshole”
“I’ve had people around me all my life who judge and misperceive things. I have a reputation. I know that, and some of it is true, but most of it isn’t. One of the truths is that I am picky about my friends.”
“Yeah?” I looked up.
He tapped the cleft in my chin. “And for whatever reason, you’ve become one of them.”
But throughout the novel Caden and Summer form a friendship.
I love the Friends first concept in novels! So many novels have insta love on day one and banging on day two. It’s nice to see a change and watch two people slowly form a friendship that eventually evolves into an intimate relationship.
I loved Summer; Her witty and sarcastic attitude and her random ramblings made this novel one of my favorites from Tijan! I love humorous characters and even though half the time Summer was hiding behind her Random Rambling and Sarcastic attitude that alone gave Summer more depth to her character.
I especially loved her scenes with Marcus (Caden’s Brother). Those were the best.
“But you see, I have to. I have to start. Avery’s my friend. I’m hanging out with your brother. You and I are classmates. I think we can develop our friendship to the stage where I give you shit. We should even start sitting next to each other in class.”
“Don’t press your luck.”
“It’s a natural progression. Don’t fight it, Marcus. It’s like evolution . Don’t fight evolution. You’ll never win. Mother nature is a bitch. She’s always going to win.”
“What the fuck are you talking about?”
The ending portion of Anti-Stepbrother made my heart hurt :(…I’m not going to give anything away i’m just going to say i hate Kevin for his manipulations and if anyone deserves the nickname ‘asshole’ it is him. But that part isn’t what broke my heart. It’s what comes after the Kevin drama. I understand why Caden ‘did the thing he did’ (wow this review is difficult). Summer needed time to come to terms with the gaping hole inside her chest that could only be filled by one thing.
But there is more to Anti-Stepbrother than a relationship between Summer, Caden, and the Kevin drama.
There’s also new friendships that are forming. Take Avery and Summer for example. Avery is Summers RA and Marcus’s on again off again girlfriend.
She’d poked my arm. “How was the bathroom?”
I poked her back. “An adventure to check off my bucket list. I sailed the golden seas and cleansed myself in the Greek sinks. I’m quite proud.”
“You keep getting a little bit weirder the longer school goes on, you know?”
I shrugged. “It’s like crack cocaine.”
Let me state a fact right now….CADEN BANKS is swoonworthy and just for that fact alone this novel has given me a book hangover! i want more of Caden in the future.
PLLLLEEEEAAASE even a novella would suffice!!!
I love Alpha Males in the novels i read so of course i would love CADEN!!!! He’s Fierce and Loyal to the limited friends he has in his inner circle.
The secondary characters were amazing as they always are in Tijan’s novels.
Bottom line…i loved Anti-Stepbrother. It was everything i was looking for in a novel and everything i expected from Tijan.
There is a little angst. Caden Banks. Hilarious Banter. Caden Banks. Heartbreak. Did i mention Caden Banks ;), DRAMA, and a HEA. Not to mention a kick-ass story line! What more could a reader want.
If you love new adult romance novels I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you pick up Anti-Stepbrother by: Tijan on August 22nd!!!
